Hands-On Cultural Experience

The Top End of the Northern Territory is home to descendants of the first arrivals to the continent over 40,000 years ago, the region is rich in cultural history. There are a host of Aboriginal rock art sites with some like Ubirr Rock and Nourlangie Rock regarded as amongst some of the most significant art sites in the world. These areas even have shelters to visit that have been used by Aboriginal people thousands of years ago.

However, to gain a true understanding of the culture of the local Aboriginal people, which is as alive today as it was thousands of years ago, you can't go past a visit to the Kakadu Culture Camp which Wilderness 4WD Adventures offers exclusively on many of its tours.

The facility is owned and operated by local Bininj (Aboriginal) people and was established as a place where they could share their culture and traditional heritage with tourists from around the world. You'll get an amazing insight into the Aboriginal people's traditional way of life - told to you by the local people instead of by a tour guide. Learn about traditional foods and how they were gathered and prepared on open fires or in ground ovens. Listen to the Dreamtime stories of the local Kakadu people as well as join in some hands on experiences spear throwing, playing the didgeridoo and weaving.
